Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS
My dad and me were out Tuesday night (Oct. 15th 2024), and had a nice view. We went to one of the parking lots at Horsetooth Reservoir after sunset. Someone had some impressive field binoculars that we got to take a look through which was really cool. This is my first time photographing a comet so I think that I did pretty well.

Here are a few cell phone photos from an expedition with my parents up Rist Canyon Road to see if we could see the Aurora Borealis last night. I think that I saw some shimmering and slight glowing behind the clouds towards the North with my eyes, which was pretty cool. Keeping track of things with the "My Aurora Forecast" app on my phone was pretty neat. The chance of seeing the Aurora went from below 1% to 3% around 9pm (2024-10-10). The KP index (NOAA Forecast) was hovering around 8 which is pretty high. The Sun is sending out a lot of stuffs right now. I came prepared with a red light headlamp and lots of camera gear, so I had fun. There is quite the backlog of photos and videos to edit as things have been busy. I will probably get to that once it starts getting cold outside. It has just been too nice to miss out on getting outside. Clockwise from top left: - Camera on video tripod in red light of headlamp - The Moon coming out behind the clouds - "My Aurora Forecast" App for Android - Taking some video of the red lights on the WWV radio towers for NIST time keeping. Listen in on AM/HAM radio. |
